Some observations:
The joy that was to come
- "these things I have spoken.. that my joy may be in you" (15:11)
- "your sorrow will turn into joy" (16:20)
- "no one will take your joy from you" (16:22)
- "ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full" (16:24)
- "that they [disciples] may have My joy fulfilled in themselves" (17:13)
Our friend Jason recently reflected on Hebrews 12:1-2, and the joy that was set before Jesus as he endured the cross. John 13 - 17, shows that Jesus wants His joy to be the joy of them that follow Him. His sorrow on the cross was turned to joy, that His joy might be ours!
